Benjamin von Blomberg

Benjamin von Blomberg (* 1978 ) is a German dramaturge.

Von Blomberg studied historical musicology , German and business administration in Hamburg . While still a student he founded the independent opera group "evviva la diva" together with his friend, director Benedikt von Peter . With the group he worked a. a. in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Hamburg productions as dramaturge and production manager. In 2005 he made his first guest appearance at the Thalia Theater Hamburg with “Quixote in der Stadt” (director: Andreas Kriegenburg), from 2006 to 2010 he worked there under director Ulrich Khuon and finally under Joachim Lux as a dramaturge. In addition, he was repeatedly involved in opera projects, for example in 2007 with “Cesare” by Georg Friedrich Händel (Theater an der Wien, director: Christof Loy ). From 2010 Benjamin von Blomberg worked as a freelance dramaturge a. a. in Berlin, Hamburg, in Hanover, at the Salzburg Festival and in Zurich especially with Nicolas Stemann , Stefan Pucher , Benedikt von Peter and Frank Abt.

Before working as a dramaturge, von Blomberg began doing his doctorate on the role of music in Elfriede Jelinek's work with Peter Petersen. Together with Nicolas Stemann he subsequently worked on several world premieres of her texts, including “ Ulrike Maria Stuart ”, the secondary drama based on Lessing'sNathan the Wise ”, “Abraumhalde”, “The Merchant's Contracts”, “Rein Gold” at the Berlin State Opera and “Wut” at the Münchner Kammerspiele also with Nicolas Stemann, with whom he has a continuous collaboration and whose productions have been repeatedly invited to the Theatertreffen in Berlin. “The Contracts of the Merchant” (Thalia Theater / Schauspiel Köln 2010) was also shown at the Festival d'Avignon in 2012, and in 2013 an invitation from “Faust” followed. In addition, publications in specialist magazines and jury and lecture activities etc. a. for the Körber Studio Junge Regie and the Mülheimer Theatertage or in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Amsterdam and Seoul, Korea.

In 2012 Benjamin von Blomberg was named Dramaturge of the Year by the trade journal “ theater heute ”.

From 2012 to 2015 Benjamin von Blomberg worked as chief dramaturge and head of the drama division at Theater Bremen . Since the 2015/16 season he has been chief dramaturge at the Munich Kammerspiele. Since June 2017 he has been designated co-director of the Schauspielhaus Zürich together with the director Nicolas Stemann from the 2019/2020 season.
