Benny Génsbøl

Benny Génsbøl (born August 15, 1933 , † July 30, 2005 ) was a Danish ornithologist and author of numerous identification and specialist books.

The teacher Génsbøl wrote numerous bird identification books and natural history guides. He also attached great importance to having been in the countries described for overview works and maintained a wide network of contacts in North Africa and the Middle East .

In the German-speaking countries, the book Birds of Prey, published in 1986 , translated into German and edited by ornithologist Walther Thiede , is his best-known work. It developed into a standard work for German-speaking ornithologists and has been translated into numerous languages ​​in addition to the Danish original edition.

Benny Génsbøl was Vice President of Dansk Ornitologisk Forening for 15 years and was made an honorary member in 2004.
