Bentley Collingwood Hilliam (actually Bentley Collingwood Smailes ; born November 6, 1890 in Scarborough , † December 19, 1968 in London ) was an English singer, songwriter, composer and actor.

Hillism first appeared under the pseudonym Lloyd Holland , later he switched to the pseudonym Bentley Collingwood Hilliam ( BC Hilliam ). In 1911 he went to Canada, where from 1913 he realized amateur theater productions with Florence Norminton . He performed as a singer and comedian with a company called The Smart Set , later with the group The Queries . His musical comedy revue The Belle of Burrard was performed in 1913. He was also known as the author of the song Here's a Ho! Vancouver .

Hilliam took part in the First World War as a lieutenant in the Canadian Military Engineers . From 1919 to 1925 he lived in New York. During this time he composed three Broadway musicals: Buddies (1919, libretto by George V. Hobart ), Elsie Janis and Her Gang (1919, with William B. Kernell , libretto by Richard Fechheimer and Elsie Janis ) and Princess Virtue (1921, Libretto and composition with Gitz Rice ). In 1925 he returned to England. With the Australian bass singer Malcom McEachern he formed the duo Mr. Flotsam and Mr. Jetsam in the 1920s and 1930s . The duo appeared in several episodes of the TV series Cabaret and Variety .
