Benzelstierna
Benzelstierna is a branch of the Swedish family Benzelius . It goes back to the Swedish theologian Erik Benzelius the Elder (1632–1709), whose children were accepted into the hereditary nobility in 1719. The three sons, who were clergymen, renounced the title of nobility and kept the name Benzelius. The sons of Archbishop Jakob Benzelius (1683–1747) and Archbishop Erik Benzelius the Younger (1675–1743), however, were also raised to the nobility in 1747 and 1751 under the name Benzelstierna, whereby the theologian and later Bishop Carl Jesper Benzelius (1714 –1793) again kept the real name.
