Berčiūnai is a village with 270 inhabitants in the district of Naujamiestis ( Panevėžys Rajongemeinde ), Lithuania on the right bank of the Nevėžis on the Sanžilė , 6 km west of Panevėžys with a Catholic church (consecrated 1997), a secondary school , a library, a post office (LT- 38052) and a children's holiday camp at Ateitininkai .
history
Berčiūnai as a place is known since the time of the Lithuanian Wars of the Teutonic Order . It was on the Lithuanian border in 1398. In Soviet Lithuania , the place became the summer camp of the pioneer organization Vladimir Ilyich Lenin .
From 1939 to 1940 a brick church was built, which was consecrated in 1944 and destroyed in 1956. In 1996 a new church was built.
