Berd ( Armenian Բերդ ) is a city in the province of Tavush in northeastern Armenia, not far from the border with Azerbaijan . The name of the place means "castle" and is reminiscent of a fortress from the 10th century, the ruins of which are near the city. Near the city there are also the monasteries Nor Waragawank and Khoranashat from the 12th century.

economy

The city's economy is characterized by agriculture. Fruits, tobacco and other agricultural products are produced in the area. Viticulture, beekeeping and granaries are also important.
