The mountain station of the Hochzillertalbahn

The Bergbahnen Hochzillertal are a company of the Schultz Group , which operates under the brand SKi-optimal Hochzillertal . The mountain railways were founded by Heinrich Schultz and his father-in-law Heinz Hirschhuber . The valley station is located in Kaltenbach in the Zillertal .

Together with Hochfügen , the ski areas linked under the name Hochfügen-Hochzillertal since December 2004 offer 37 lifts and 89 kilometers of slopes. Two parallel cable cars lead from the valley station in Kaltenbach to over 1,700 meters above sea level.

Technical specifications

Both cable cars are so-called single - cable gondolas, each of which has cabins that can transport eight people. The valley stations located at an altitude of 592 meters are directly adjacent to each other, as are their mountain stations at an altitude of around 1740 meters. The distance between the two stations is almost 3065 meters. On the steepest incline, the railways have an incline of around 60 percent.

The older (south-facing) of the two lifts was built in 1997 and has a middle station 1060 meters above sea level. The second cable car, on the other hand, was only built in 2006 and passes the middle station of the first cable car without stopping. The construction of this second lift became necessary because the Hochzillertalbahn had developed into the preferred feeder of the newly created Hochfügen-Hochzillertal ski area after the merger of the two ski areas Hochfügen and Hochzillertal in 2004 .

Incident 2018

On Sunday morning, December 9, 2018, strong winds caused a collision and the wedging of 5 ten- person gondolas of the Wimbachexpress at pillar 6. This cable car was newly built in 2018 and replaced the four-seater Krössbichl chairlift . No one was harmed as the runway had already been emptied due to the wind.
