Bergisches barrel organ museum

The Bergisches barrel organ museum is located in Kempershöhe , a district of the Marienheide community in the Oberbergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is housed there in the former village church. A carillon sounds on the north side of the building, which changes its sound with the time of day and season.

The museum can only be visited by appointment.

History / description

When the former village church in Marienheide-Kempershöhe was up for sale in the spring of 2008, Ullrich Wimmer bought it together with his partner Doris van Rhee in order to set up the Bergisch barrel organ museum. To do this, he first had to thoroughly restore the building.

Since then, mechanical musical instruments from three centuries have been exhibited here. Musical clocks, drum and record music boxes , self-playing pianos , orchestras and barrel organs sound . There are also stories and poems, bench and kitchen songs , also to sing along. In addition, a carillon sounds on the north side of the building .

Award

The barrel organ museum was awarded the title of Intangible Unesco Cultural Heritage in 2017 .
