The Protestant Mountain Church is a former castle church in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Bad Bergzabern in Germany . It is only a few hundred meters away from Bergzabern Castle .

history

The mountain church was built from 1720 to 1730 by the Lutheran congregation. According to the list of monuments it is marked with the year 1733. The construction of the church was financially supported by Karoline von Nassau-Zweibrücken , who lived as a widow in Bergzabern Castle and used it as the castle church at the time. Because there was no royal box, barred stalls were built in for the rule. The mother of Duchess Karoline, Countess Philippine Henriette von Nassau-Zweibrücken and her sister, Princess Henriette, are buried in the crypt under the altar .

Furnishing

The mountain church is built in the Baroque style. Its coffered ceiling depicts the firmament with golden stars, sun and moon. A special feature of the pulpit, apart from the crown sound cover, is a sermon hourglass . The organ from 1782 with two trumpet angels and the ducal coat of arms was built by Johann Karl Baumann .
