Berit Ås (born April 10, 1928 in Fredrikstad ) is a Norwegian politician and social psychologist . She taught at the University of Oslo from 1969 , most recently from 1991 until her retirement in 1994 as a professor.

Berit Ås put her main research focus on women's culture, economy and the development of domination techniques, about which she wrote the book The Five Techniques of Domination in 1979 . She is an honorary doctor from the Universities of Copenhagen , Halifax and Uppsala . She was chairwoman of the Norwegian Women's University Foundation from 1983.

Berit Ås also made a name for herself in Norwegian politics, for example she was chairman of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti when it was founded in 1975. Before that, she worked mainly at the local level for the Arbeiderpartiet . Between 1971 and 1973 she was deputy mayor of Asker . She was a member of the Storting from 1973 to 1977 and is a recipient of the Rachel Carson Prize , among other things .
