Berlin Gothic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Berlin Gothic is a seven-part thriller series by the Berlin author Jonas Winner .

It was published by the author, Berlin Gothic Media , and is available as an e-book in Mobipocket or ePUB format. In addition, the seven parts were summarized in one volume on June 3, 2013 as a Knaur paperback. The first volume in the series was ranked third among the 2011 annual bestsellers in Amazon's Kindle shop , and the second part was ranked fourth. Berlin Gothic 1 held first place in the kindle Top100 for 66 days, longer than any other book so far.

The author's publisher describes his approach as follows:

“The author finances the time he needs to write his approx. 1200–1400 page, seven-part thriller by publishing the volumes of approx. 200 paperback pages one after the other. At the same time, however, this form of publication puts him under massive pressure. Hardly any reader is used to reading a thriller while the book is still being written! "

criticism

“As in the good old days of serial novels, Winner delivers his thriller bit by bit. The first volume is already written so effectively that you absolutely want to know how it will go on and stay breathlessly true to the series. The reader of “Berlin Gothic”, however, does not expect ambitious high literature, it is about exciting entertainment with powerful blasts. This is linguistically emphasized by an active staccato style, which underlines the understanding of "yesterday" and "today" by alternating between past tense and presence. "

“Berlin Gothic is definitely only marginally about solving a bizarre series of murders and finding the perpetrator. But if you like somewhat opaque narratives with an apparently higher message like in the TV series "Lost" or like David Lynch , you should get your money's worth with "Berlin Gothic". "
