The Berlin Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis eV (BIPP) is a state-recognized training and further education institute for psychotherapy founded in 1983 and based in Berlin. Psychologists with a diploma or master’s degree can complete training to become or become a psychological psychotherapist in accordance with the Psychotherapists Act , and doctors can train to become a medical psychoanalyst . The institute also offers various further training opportunities for psychotherapists who are already licensed .

history

The BIPP was founded in 1983 with the aim of offering doctors well-founded training in order to obtain the professional title of “psychotherapy”. The medical association has recognized the institute since it was founded, and in 1991 it was recognized by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians . In 1992, the BIPP was recognized by the German Society for Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Depth Psychology (DGPT) as a training center for depth psychology and psychoanalysis. Since then, BIPP graduates can become members of the DGPT. In 1993 a working group of the German Psychoanalytic Society (DGP) was founded at the BIPP. Since 1999, when the Psychotherapists Act came into force, qualified psychologists have also been able to begin their training and, after successfully completing them, apply for a license to practice as a psychological psychotherapist. In 2002 a DGP institute was founded at BIPP and in 2003 it was recognized by the professional association as an official DPG training center.

Training opportunities

The BIPP currently offers psychologists and psychologists with a master’s degree training to become a psychological psychotherapist in the following directions

  • Psychotherapy based on depth psychology and
  • Psychoanalysis (bracketed education).

Doctors have the option of medical psychoanalysis training. You can use it to acquire the “Psychoanalysis” certificate of expertise. Furthermore, part of the specialist training can be completed at the BIPP.

Apprentices from the DPG Institute at the BIPP complete their psychoanalysis training according to the guidelines of the DPG. This gives you the opportunity to become a member of this specialist society.

Training opportunities

BIPP offers psychotherapists who are already licensed in the field of adult psychotherapy further training opportunities in these fields

Trainees in the advanced phase of their training can also complete further training in child and adolescent psychotherapy.

In cooperation with the Berlin Institute for Group Analysis , advanced training to become an analytical or depth psychologist group therapist can be completed.

Institute outpatient clinic

The BIPP has its own outpatient clinic. Patients can turn to them if they are interested in starting psychotherapy or psychoanalysis. For this purpose, several preliminary discussions are carried out and then, taking into account the wishes of the patients but also the impairment caused by the mental or psychosomatic disorder , the transfer to experienced members of the institute as well as trainees is carried out.

Forum of Psychoanalytic Sciences

The Forum of Psychoanalytic Sciences at the BIPP was initiated in 2007. The aim of the forum is to elaborate the possible applications of psychoanalytic theories outside the clinical field. In particular, research approaches from the cultural and social sciences are used for this purpose and lectures and symposia with psychoanalytically interested cultural and social scientists are regularly organized. On July 2, 2011, the Scientific Ready of the Forum of Psychoanalytic Sciences was founded. It consists of nine members from different departments.

AG film and psychoanalysis

The AG Film and Psychoanalysis at the BIPP regularly organizes lectures and events on topics of psychoanalytic film analysis . Lecturers, guest speakers and trainees of the institute as well as interested parties can take part.

AG painting and psychoanalysis

The Working Group Painting and Psychoanalysis deals with specific topics of psychoanalytic art theory in theoretical lectures on the assumption that the basic experiences of human existence symbolized by art can create access to the unconscious. The events are aimed at trainees and members of the institute, but are usually also accessible to external participants.

AG Music and Psychoanalysis

The AG Music and Psychoanalysis looks at the musician's life (composer, interpreter, listener) from a psychoanalytic point of view. The focus is on an exchange about current musical experience. Lectures, concerts and seminars are offered on this topic.
