The Berloque dermatitis is a special form of phototoxic reaction.

The phototoxic reaction is mainly triggered by certain plants, foods and drugs. They increase the effect of the radiation effect on the skin and sunburn can easily occur.

Certain plant substances ( furocoumarins ) that can often be found in perfume play a role in berloque dermatitis . Spraying or dabbing the skin and then exposing it to sunlight can cause burn-like symptoms, such as reddening of the skin, swelling and blistering. Permanent pigment spots appear later .

The common shape of the watch chain pendant ( French berloque ) gave the skin reaction its name.
