Bernard (Angoulême)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernard († around 950) was a count of Périgord and Angoulême from the House of Taillefer . He was a son of Count William I of Périgord and his wife Regilindis of Toulouse.

He succeeded his father at an unknown point in the beginning of the 10th century as Count of Périgord . Apparently after 918 he killed the Vice Count Lambert von Marcillac and his brother Arnaud in retaliation for an attack they had previously carried out on his aunt Sanchia, the wife of Count Adémar . After the death of his cousin, Wilhelm II. Taillefer , in 945, Bernard was also able to take over Angoulême and thus reunite the legacy of his grandfather Vulgrin I. When he died is unclear.

He was married successively to the ladies Bertha and Garsinde, with whom he had several children:

First marriage:

  • Arnaud I. Barnabé ( Arnaldus Borracio ; †?), Count of Périgord and Angoulême
  • William III. Tallerand ( Willelmus Talerandus ; † August 6, 962), Count of Périgord and Angoulême
  • as well as Gausbert and Bernard

Second marriage:

  • Ranulf Bompar ( Rannulfus Bomparius ; † July 27, 975), Count of Périgord and Angoulême
  • as well as and Richard Insipiens , Hilduin and Gottfried
