Ranulf (Angoulême)
Ranulf Bompar (lat .: Rannulfus Bomparius ; † July 27, 975 ) was a count of Angoulême and Périgord from the House of Taillefer . He was a younger son of Count Bernard I of Périgord and his second wife Gersinde.
After his two older half-brothers Arnaud Barnabé ( Arnuldus Borracio ) and Wilhelm Tallerand ( Willelmus Talerandus ) died within a very short time in 962, Ranulf took over the property of his family. With the support of the Duke of Aquitaine, the illegitimate son of his cousin Wilhelm II Taillefer , Arnaud Manzer , who, despite his illegitimate birth, registered hereditary rights to Angoulême, rose up against him . The conflict was settled in the battle in which Ranulf was killed. His surviving brother Richard Insipiens could not hold out, which is why Arnaud Manzer took over Angoulême and succeeded Ranulf's nephew Elias I in Périgord .
