Bernard Anton Bandara Goonetilleke (* 1940 ) is a retired Sri Lankan diplomat .

Career

He joined the foreign service in 1950. From 1992 to 1997 he was Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva , at the same time as Permanent Representative to the Vienna International Center when on January 13, 1994 he was also accredited as Ambassador to the Holy See . After the signing of the Armistice Agreement during the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2002, he was appointed Director General of the Secretariat for the Coordination of the Peace Process (SCOPP) and served as a member of the Government Negotiating Team. In Beijing he was ambassador from 2002 to 2004. From 2004 to 2005 he was permanent representative to the UN headquarters . On May 26, 2005, he was appointed Ambassador to Washington, DC , where he was accredited from April 12, 2005 to August 20, 2008
