Bernard Clerfayt

Bernard Clerfayt (born September 30, 1961 in Uccle / Ukkel ) is a Belgian politician.

He obtained his license and master's degree in economics from the Université catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve and is a well-known researcher and professor.

Political career

At the local level, he was first elected in 1988 and was a member of the Regional Council (Parliament) of Brussels from 1989 to 2007 . Clerfayt is also deputy chairman of the “ Front démocratique des francophones ”, which is part of the “ Mouvement Réformateur ” party (francophone liberal party of Belgium), and since 2001 mayor of Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek , Brussels. He has been a member of the Belgian Chamber of Deputies since the 2007 elections . On March 20, 2008, Clerfayt took his oath before King Albert II as Belgian State Secretary for Finance, responsible for combating tax evasion, modernizing finances and environmental taxes.
