Bernard Neteler (born October 7, 1821 in Dinklage , † July 9, 1912 in Ostbevern ) was a Roman Catholic priest , biblical scholar and writer.

Life

Johann Bernard Neteler was born in Dinklage as the son of the poet Johann Hermann Neteler and his wife Anna Maria Elisabeth Sieve. After graduating from high school Antonianum Vechta in Vechta, he studied theology in Münster. He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1846 and completed his studies with a doctorate. In 1847 he became vicar of the castle Loburg ; he held this position until his death. His place of work was, among other things, the Hubertus Chapel . He found his grave in the Anna Chapel cemetery .

In 1856 his first work was published: “Basic Laws of the Historical Development of the Human Kind”. This was followed by comments and investigations on numerous books of the Old Testament : Isaiah , Jeremiah , Ezekiel and Daniel , 1871 on the twelve minor prophets , 1873 on the 1st and 2nd books of the Chronicle , 1877 on Esdras , Nehemia and Esther , and finally on the books Richter , Samuel , 1st and 2nd books of kings , Judith and Genesis . He tried to create an Old Testament timetable to compare it with events in world history.
