Bernard Vaughan (* 1847 in Herefordshire ; † 1922 ) was an English Roman Catholic priest and author of religious writings; he was the brother of Cardinal Herbert Vaughan . He received his education at Stonyhurst College and he became a member of the Jesuits . For 18 years he took part in the religious and secular life in Manchester , but went to London in 1901 , where he a. a. engaged in helping the needy in the Westminster and East End neighborhoods . His sermons on "the sins of society" in 1906 attracted a great deal of attention. He preached in Montreal in 1910, traveled to Canada , the United States, and Alaska , and read in China , Japan , Italy, and France . In 1915 he became chaplain of the British Expeditionary Force in Europe.
