Bernardine Evaristo , MBE , FRSL , FRSA (born May 28, 1959 in London ) is a British writer .

Life

Bernardine Evaristo is the fourth of a total of eight children. Her mother is an English elementary school teacher and her father is a welder of Nigerian descent. According to her own information, she also has Brazilian, Irish and German ancestors. Evaristo grew up in Woolwich, in south-east London. She has a Doctor of Philosophy in creative writing . Her novel Girl, Woman, Other in 2019 was the same year with The Testament of Margaret Atwood with the Booker Prize awarded. The work tells of twelve people, mostly black British women, whose lives are intertwined. Evaristo is the first black female writer to receive the Booker Prize. 2019 it was included in the anthology New Daughters of Africa by Margaret Busby added.
