Bernardo Rodríguez

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernardo Rodríguez was a Spanish soccer player in Mexico who was used in the attack row .

Rodríguez, who was born in Spain , emigrated to Mexico as a young man, where he first landed in the port city of Tampico . It was there that he began playing football. He then moved to the port city of Veracruz , where he lived for a while before moving to Club España in the capital of Mexico before the 1913/14 season . The Libro de oro del fútbol mexicano describes the four important newcomers before this season (Enrique Gavaldá, the brothers Antonio and Jaime Arechederra and the Bernardo Rodríguez discussed here) as the decisive reinforcements through which the club became the new series champion in the following years Mexico developed. Rodríguez is described in this standard work of Mexican football as a "dangerous goalscorer" and in his first season in 1913/14 he was able to prove the scoring threat attributed to him when he was top scorer of the Primera Fuerza .

As early as 1914, Rodríguez was elected, together with the club's founder Francisco Arias and the secretary Francisco Gómez Alonso, as a delegate of Club España, which represented the club's interests in the league. In April 1915, Rodríguez was elected club president; a job he did for a year, as was customary at Club España back then.

As a player, Bernardo Rodríguez was demonstrably one of the championship teams of Club España in the seasons 1913/14, 1914/15, 1915/16 and 1918/19.
