The Deviants was a British rock band , the end of 1966 as The Social Deviants in London district of Notting Hill was founded.

Band history

The band had its roots in the London hippie movement and is known as the first communal band. The group was originally founded in late 1966 as The Social Deviants by Mick Farren , with rock bands such as The Who , Velvet Underground and especially The Fugs as its main influence . In the autumn of 1967 the musicians met 21-year-old millionaire Nigel Samuel, with whose financial support they wrote their debut album Ptooff! In the London studio Sound Techniques under the direction of Joe Boyd . Recordings. It appeared on the band's own record label Impresario Records and was distributed in the London Underground scene, including by the magazine International Times . The Decca Records label released Ptooff! 1969 in the USA. On the second album Disposable , which was released in 1968 by Stable Records , bassist Cord Rees was replaced by Duncan Sanderson. After guitarist Bishop got married, he left the band. For him came the Canadian Paul Rudolph. In this line-up, The Deviants recorded the third album, which was released in 1969 on Transatlantic Records . During a tour of the United States, Mick Farren left the band due to musical and personal differences. The remaining three members then founded the Pink Fairies , one of the first British punk rock bands.

Mick Farren released albums under the name of the band with changing guest musicians . The guitarists Larry Wallis and Wayne Kramer as well as the former Motörhead drummer Phil Taylor were involved .
