Bernd Brecht (born March 18, 1956 in Berlin-Buckow ) is a German performance artist , musician, composer, actor and author. Today he lives in Wroclaw in Poland .

Life

After graduating from high school, he worked from 1971 as a cemetery gardener, postman, caretaker, stage worker, small actor, musician and in care for the elderly. From 1977 to 1982 he studied drama and music in evening classes in Weimar and Leipzig. In addition to his training, he was the front man of various bands a. a. Emergency switch .

From 1981/1982 he worked as a freelance actor, musician and freelance author in Altenburg, Schwerin, Plauen, Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), Weimar, Meiningen, Berlin and many other German cities. From 1989 on he lived for some time in Ghent, Madrid and New York. During his time in the United States, he was primarily inspired by the work of Charles Bukowski , which resulted in poems and the radio play A rainy woman's story . In the local scene he sang and played in a wide variety of pieces and was a sought-after guest singer for popular underground bands such as Fish & Pain.

In 1995 he returned to Berlin. Here I met the Berlin artist Stephan Dialer (born 1965). In 1996 Bernd Brecht recorded the first CD Freiheit 1 in the Franz Club Berlin .

With the celebrations for Bertolt Brecht's 100th birthday in March 1998, Bernd Brecht's most radical productions up to then took place, including the fire performance at the Bertolt Brecht monument at the Berliner Ensemble as well as the program with XUR (the “latex king of Germany”) and the Performance Chaining to the Dead Story or Die Brechts in Red for the 35th Theatertreffen.

1999 saw the realization of the 2nd CD, Freiheit 2.

For 74 days during the Kosovo war , he was regularly at the Brecht monument with his warning performance A man against the war to be heard and seen.

Since then he has continued to work as a broken art artist at music performance festivals, events, concert and theater stages, in films nationally and internationally.
