Bernd Gökeler (* 1968 in Geislingen an der Steige ) was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his social commitment in 2019 .

Gökeler studied economics in Marburg and fell ill with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the mid-1990s . Since 2001 he has been active in the multiple sclerosis self-help group Marburg-Biedenkopf (MS SHG). In 2011 he became its head.

He is the first chairman of the association Networks for Participation and Advice, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs . V. (short  NTB ). The aim of the association is to promote the participation of people with disabilities through advice and networking and thus to put the Federal Participation Act (law to strengthen the participation and self-determination of people with disabilities) into practice.

In addition, Gökeler's social commitment is also of a general nature. So he is z. B. Co-author of the poverty report Incredible - Poverty Among Us .
