from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernd Gombert (born April 1, 1960 ) is a German mechanical engineer who works in the field of mechatronics .

Gombert has developed over 100 registered and granted patents . The companies he founded and the technology park with the mechatronics development center in Seefeld in Bavaria currently employ almost 400 people.

Life

After completing his apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, Bernd Gombert studied mechanical engineering at the Philipps University of Marburg and precision engineering at the Giessen-Friedberg University of Applied Sciences, followed by a general degree at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Since 1986 he has been a research assistant at the Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). There Gombert was head of mechanical development from 1989 to 2001 and carried out developments in the fields of drive and robot technology, new laparoscopic surgical instruments for minimally invasive surgery and X-by-wire systems for the automotive industry.

For the development of the Space Mouse and the gripping hand of the first robot in space (ROTEX - D2 Mission) he was awarded the Alfred Kuhlenkamp Prize by the VDI / VDE Society for Micro and Precision Engineering in 1994. Among other things, he founded SpaceControl GmbH , now a subsidiary of Logitech , the world's largest computer mouse manufacturer , the technology park in Seefeld and eStop GmbH for pioneering brake technologies. In April 2004, eStop received the Hermes Award for outstanding scientific and technological developments, with 100,000 euros one of the world's most highly endowed technology prizes . eStop was integrated into the Body & Chassis Electronics division of Siemens VDO and was managed by Gombert as technical director (CTO) from 2005 until the takeover of VDO AG by the automotive supplier company Continental AG . After managing the mechatronics within the Schaeffler Group, he is again devoting himself to innovations in medium-sized companies in the Seefeld Technology Park.

Services

  • In 1992, Gombert founded Space Control GmbH , a company for 3D systems, based in Gilching , with the aim of making 3D input technology (SpaceMouse) a global standard in 3D computer graphics. In 1998 this company carried out a joint venture with Logitech, which was renamed LogiCad3D and founded sister companies in the USA and Japan. As a partner, he was the chairman of the board.
  • In 1998 Gombert founded Space Control - Industries GmbH , a company for industrial 3D systems, based in Grafrath , which implements SpaceMouse technology in various areas of robot, medical and general sensor technology (e.g. airbag control ). Here he had the function of managing partner.
  • With the establishment of Technologie Park Seefeld (TPS) GmbH & Co.KG in 1998, also based in Grafrath, Gombert wanted to further intensify the promotion and implementation of high technology in the form of a mechatronics center in Seefeld. Here, too, he had the role of managing partner.
  • With the establishment of TPSNet GmbH in Grafrath in 2000, the provision of IP connectivity for the Seefeld mechatronics center and the marketing of Internet provider services in the IT environment were ensured. Here he had the function of managing partner.
  • In 2000 he founded eStop GmbH (Space Technology Originated Progress) for the development and production of a new type of electromechanical brake system (eBrake) for the automotive industry. The aim of this company is the worldwide standardization of " brake-by-wire " systems in road and rail traffic. Here he had the function of managing partner.
  • Together with Logitech, Gombert founded 3Dconnexion Holding SA in July 2001, a Swiss holding company into which all nine companies in the 3D business area were merged (Logitech 3D Holding GmbH, LogiCad3D Inc., LogiCad3D GmbH, LogiCad3D SARL, LogiCad3D Polska Sp.z oo, Spacetec Ltd., Spacetec Inc., Spacetec GmbH, SpaceControl Industries GmbH). Here he had the function of managing director as well as the management of development and production of 3Dconnexion GmbH and was a member of the supervisory board of 3Dconnexion Holding SA. until June 2003.
  • From October 2004 he was technical director of the Body & Chassis Electronics division at Siemens VDO. He was also the managing director of the eStop GmbH he brought in and responsible for the further development of the electronic wedge brake. After the takeover of Siemens VDO by Continental AG and the subsequent discontinuation of the development of the electronic wedge brake, Gombert left the company.
  • In 2005, Gombert expanded the Technology Park in Seefeld to include a new development center for mechatronics (ezm).

Honors

  • 2009: Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany. In the laudation it was said that he was one of the "proven and recognized performers in our country and among those who set a standard for enthusiasm, willingness to perform and helpfulness" .
  • In 1994 he received the Alfred Kuhlenkamp Prize from the VDI / VDE Society for Micro and Precision Engineering.
