Bernd Walter Heinrich von Arnim

Bernd Walter Heinrich von Arnim (born April 12, 1885 ; † April 21, 1917 ) was an officer in the Imperial Navy , most recently in the rank of lieutenant captain , who died in the First World War .

He died during a naval battle in the Strait of Dover when his torpedo boat SMS G 42 encountered Royal Navy forces . The boat was rammed and sunk by the British destroyer HMS Broke . In memory of Bernd von Arnim, the German destroyer Z 11 Bernd von Arnim was named after him during World War II .

Bernd von Arnim came from the old Brandenburg noble family von Arnim .
