Bernd Wimmer

Bernd Wimmer (born November 25, 1974 ) is an Austrian basketball coach .

career

Wimmer began playing basketball in Gmunden at the age of six. His father Bernd senior was the first Bundesliga coach in Gmunden from 1973. Wimmer junior played for Gmunden's men's team for twelve years and was initially a player until 2010, then as assistant coach to Bob Gonnen and Mathias Fischer at Swans Gmunden . In the meantime, he stopped in Wels during his playing career. In 2010 he gave up the post as assistant coach in Gmunden and took over the position of head coach at the BBU Salzburg in the second division. He resigned from his position in October 2012, then returned to Gmunden, where he became head of the youth department.

In the run-up to the 2015/16 season, Wimmer was appointed head coach of the Gmunden Bundesliga team. Instead, he put down his main job in insurance for the time being. In the 2018/19 season he led Gmunden to the runner-up and resigned from his coaching position in June 2019. In the same month he was appointed sports coordinator by the Austrian Basketball Association and also took over the post of co-trainer for the national team.

National team

In the summer of 2013 he was head coach of the Austrian U16 national team at the B-EM, a year later he was in charge of the U18 selection at the European Championships (also B group). Afterwards he was the coach of the U20 national team in 2015 and the U18 team again in 2016.
