Petr Kopfstein (born March 18, 1978 in Karlovy Vary , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech aerobatic pilot who is currently competing in the Master Class of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship .

Career

Beginnings

Kopfstein dreamed of flying since childhood and signed up for flight lessons with the first money he made while studying. He had a direct affinity for high centrifugal forces. "My first experience was aerobatics, and that was when I knew I wanted to do it for the rest of my life," he recalls.

Kopfstein completed his studies with a master's degree in economics from the University of Prague and continued to develop his flying skills.

Competitive aerobatics

In 2007 he was a member of the aerobatic team of the Czech Republic, was considered the ultimate talent and won the national championship in the Unlimited and three other categories. He was also on the podium at the German and Hungarian championships. As a passionate snowboarder and diver, there is nothing nicer for Kopfstein than being in the air. He has more than 1,000 flight hours in 30 different aircraft, including helicopters.

Red Bull Air Race World Championship

The Challenger Cup gave Kopfstein the opportunity to develop further. He finished the 2014 season in sixth place (but still won the final jump-off), but only one year later he was in second place. In the past 2015 season, he won two races and came second twice. Because of this and his extraordinary performances, he has now received the coveted "Unrestricted Superlicense" and the invitation to the Master Class of the Red Bull Air Race.

The Spielberg team consists of Red Bull Air Race experts Andreas Kaufmann as the technician for Kopfstein's Edge 540 V3 racing aircraft and Martin Nepovim as the team coordinator.
