François Le Vot (born May 2, 1970 in Tunis , Tunisia ) is an active aerobatic pilot in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship .

Career

Beginnings

Le Vot, known only as "Zool" in the world of aviation, is an accomplished aerobatic ace with great experience and success, both at world and European championships in the unrestricted category. He is also an excellent fighter pilot and top gun instructor for the French military. In total, he has completed well over 4,300 hours of flight, including 1,500 hours in military aircraft and over 1,200 hours of aerobatics.

Le Vot graduated from the French Air Force with honors. Thanks to his special skills and hard work, he was quickly recognized. in his student pilot class, he was twice awarded first-class honors and graduated as best Air Force student of 1992.

After 12 years as a fighter pilot and flight instructor, he became the Air Force's official pilot ambassador for the next 12 years and was awarded the National Order of Merit ( Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite ).

Le Vot, who lives in the south of France, retired from the French Air Force as a flight instructor after a 24-year career with Alpha Jets and the Mirage 2000 and then joined the French military's aerobatic team.

Competitive aerobatics

Le Vot's passion for aerobatics stems from his 11 years on the French military aerobatic team. As a result, he was appointed to the French national team in 2004.

Le Vot won the Team Aerobatic Championship (2009, 2013) and the individual flight of the French National Aerobatic Championship (2011, 2013, 2014), as well as numerous other world, European and national podiums in team and individual competitions. In 2012, Le Vot became vice European champion and also won gold with the team. But he celebrated his greatest triumph in 2013 in Dallas when he won the aerobatic world championship title.

In 2008 he received a super license for the Red Bull Air Race from the FAI and has since participated in Air Race training camps. After his victory in the Challenger Cup in 2014, he attacked in 2015 for the first time in the Master Class. For the 2017 season, Le Vot acquired the former racing plane of the crashed pilot Hannes Arch , a Zivko Edge 540 V3. However, he could only use this for the fourth race in Budapest ( Hungary ).
