Peter Podlunšek (born May 25, 1970 , Trbovlje , Slovenia ) is a Slovenian aerobatic pilot who started in the Challenger Class in 2014, 2015 and in the Master Class of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in 2016, 2017 .

Career

Beginnings

Born in Trbovlje, Podlunšek was enthusiastic about aviation at an early age and secured his gliding license at the age of 16. At the age of 21 he started flying motorized airplanes, only three years later he started aerobatics.

Competitive aerobatics

At his first national aerobatic championship, Podlunšek immediately came third in the highest category. Since then he has collected countless medals, has been Slovenian champion eight times, represented Slovenia at world and European championships and has triumphed in numerous other international competitions. In two decades of flying world air shows and competitions, Podlunšek has accumulated more than 1,800 hours of aerobatics.

Red Bull Air Race World Championship

Peter Podlunšek was the first Slovene ever in the Master Class. In his home country he was a top aerobatic pilot, at the Red Bull Air Race he gained two years of experience in the Challenger Class. The eight-time national aerobatic master, who also has numerous international podium places, was second in the Challenger Cup 2015 and was on the podium three times. After the 2015 season, Podlunšek brought the Unrestricted Superlicence under one roof and was thus able to start in the Master Class for the first time in 2016.

Podlunšek competed for the last time in the 2017 season finale of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship on October 14th and 15th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After four Red Bull Air Race seasons, he announced his retirement in October 2017.
