Michael Goulian (born September 4, 1968 in Winthrop , Massachusetts ) is an American aerobatic pilot and has been a participant in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship since 2004 .

Career

Beginnings

Goulian was born into a family that has had a flight school in the northeastern United States since 1964 . His father, Myron Goulian, was an examiner for the United States' Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) .

Competitive aerobatics

On his 16th birthday he completed his first solo flight with a Cessna 150 and a year later he went into aerobatics. At 22 he won the US National Advanced Championship and at 27 he won the National Unlimited Championships. In addition, Goulian worked as an aviation pilot, established an aerobatic school and is co-author of the book series "Basic and Advanced Aerobatics", which is a standard work in this area. He is also one of seven pilots who have so far received triple honors for their air shows: the Art Scholl Memorial Award, the Bill Barber Award and ICAS Sword of Excellence. Goulian is also an honorary member of the legendary US Navy Blue Angels.

Goulian is married and has one daughter.

As one of the most experienced and ambitious pilots in the world championship, the American Michael Goulian has a number of career highlights to show, including his memorable victory in the legendary Red Bull Air Race 2009 in Budapest.

After an orientation year in 2015, in which he relied on both new team members and a new racing aircraft, Team Goulian achieved impressive results in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In Kazan (2017) he was then rewarded with a podium placement and third place - it was a North American podium across the board alongside Kirby Chambliss and Pete McLeod .
