The Red Bull Air Race 2018 World Championship is the 13th season of a series of air races organized by Red Bull Air Race GmbH . Eight races will be held in the 2018 racing season. The stations are Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Cannes (France), Chiba (Japan), Budapest (Hungary), Kazan (Russia), Wiener Neustadt (Austria), Indianapolis (USA) and Fort Worth (USA).

Rule changes

In 2018 there will be a new rule on the load factor in the race: For the Master Class pilots the limit in the track will be 10 g in the future , and the Challenger pilots must also be careful about complying with the 10 g rule in their new, more powerfully motorized racing aircraft. As soon as a master class pilot exceeds the 10 g limit for more than 0.6 seconds, he receives a two-second penalty. So far, the pilot's round ended with an automatic DNF (Did Not Finish). The new regulation allows pilots to continue to participate in the race, unless they exceed 12 g , which results in a DNF. In the Challenger Class, there is a two-second penalty if the pilots exceed the 10 g limit. If they reach more than 11 g , the consequence is a DNF.

As before, the Challenger Class pilots will fly in the same locations as the Master Class, but not every Challenger Cup pilot will fly at every event. The format will change in 2018 insofar that each pilot will fly at least four (instead of five) races of the first seven stops of the season. As in 2017, before the eighth and final stop of the competition, the best four results of the pilots are added up and the top six qualify for the season finale. The points of the final race will be added to the previous results of the pilots. The pilot with the highest number of points will ultimately be crowned the Challenger Cup Champion.
