Modifications

In the 2015 season, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship saw many teams having tips or winglets on their wings in order to gain an advantage over the competition. In 2014, Nigel Lamb was the only pilot with winglets. During the break of the season, Matt Hall improved on his MXS-R. Since then, Matthias Dolderer has been added with his Edge. Péter Besenyei on his new V3 aircraft, as well as Hannes Arch , also arrived at Ascot with winglets.

Winglets reduce the induced drag at high lift values and therefore make the aircraft faster. It does this by smoothing out the airflow. In addition, stability around the vertical axis and maneuverability around the longitudinal axis are improved.
