In his 2009 World Championship debut season, Hall made it to the podium in his MXS-R as the first rookie in a race and in the overall standings (third). In 2015 he made his first two race wins perfect and he was the only driver who had the stamina and ability to stand up to the top favorite for the title, Paul Bonhomme, until the season finale. In the end, he only missed the world title by five points.

As one of the most consistent and persistent pilots in the Red Bull Air Race , Matt Hall secured second place in the overall World Championship standings in 2015 and 2016. But at the end of the 2016 season, almost everything went wrong and he needed a new racing plane.

At the beginning of the 2017 season, Hall not only had a new racing plane, but also a new team. In addition, his injury problems were behind him, so the Australian was finally able to take the time to get to know his new Edge 540 V3 and his team. After he got used to everything, he was able to improve steadily and climbed place by place in the overall standings.

He was third in Porto and followed up with a second place in Lausitz. Previously, on his birthday, he won qualifying at the Lausitzring and later also the final qualifying in the last race of the 2017 season in Indianapolis.
