Paul Bonhomme (born September 22, 1964 ) is a British aerobatic and commercial pilot . With three world championship titles (2009, 2010 and 2015) he is the most successful pilot in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship , the fastest motorsport series in the world. Life

Paul Bonhomme came from a family of aviation enthusiasts. His father was a professional pilot, as was his brother and his mother a flight attendant . At the age of 16, Paul hired himself as a so-called dogsbody (German girl for everything ) at White Waltham Airfield in Berkshire , where he tidied hangars and cleaned and refueled aircraft. He received his first pilot license at the age of 18. Subsequently Bonhomme began aerobatics by asking for Richard Goode Aerobatics models Pitts Special , Yak 50, Extra 300 and Su-26 Sukhoi - the first Soviet civilian machine of Sukhoi - flew. In commercial aviation he initially worked for a small airline in Cardiff , and now he flies a Boeing 747 for British Airways . As of 2010, he had already booked a total of 16,300 flight hours.

Paul Bonhomme became better known as a pilot in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship , a Formula 1- like world championship in which aerobatic pilots have to steer their small aircraft through a pylon course without contact at up to 400 kilometers per hour. Bonhomme is the owner and pilot of Team Bonhomme , which includes a technician, a team coordinator and a scientist specializing in aerodynamics . A Zivko Edge 540 serves as an ultra-light, state-of-the-art aircraft . After his third world title, Bonhomme announced his retirement from the world championship in October 2015. He justified this decision by saying that he wanted to devote himself more to his family and his job as an airline pilot. With 19 career wins and a total of 46 podium finishes (in 66 races), Paul Bonhomme is the most successful pilot in the Air Race.

On June 28, 2010 Bonhomme was awarded the prestigious Segrave Trophy. This award has been given to outstanding Britons in automotive , shipping and aviation since 1930 . Previous winners included Malcolm Campbell , Jackie Stewart and Lewis Hamilton . Commenting on Bonhomme's election, Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Awards Committee, said: “We are delighted to present Paul Bonhomme with the Segrave Trophy for his accomplishments in the world of aviation. Air racing requires enormous skills and only the best pilots in the world are able to compete in these demanding events - it is truly Formula 1 in three dimensions. "

Today Paul Bonhomme lives in Cambridgeshire with his wife Laura, their three daughters and a stepson .
