The Extra 300 is a sport and aerobatic airplane . It was developed by the former aerobatic pilot Walter Extra as a high-performance aircraft for competitive aerobatics and is one of the few aircraft that is competitive today in the Unlimited aerobatic category . Built it from the Extra Flugzeugproduktions- und Vertriebs GmbH at the airfield Dinslaken / Schwarze Heide in Hünxe .
history
The Extra 300 was introduced in 1988 and has been manufactured in many different versions since then. The main difference to their predecessors Extra 230 and Extra 260 are the wings made of fiber composite materials instead of wood and the more powerful Lycoming AEIO 540 engine. The first flight of the machine with the registration D-EAEW with Walter Extra on board was on May 6, 1988 and in early 1991 the machine received its type certificate. The original Extra 300 version is a two-seater middle - decker with a symmetrical surface profile and a zero degree setting angle . Due to the symmetrical wing profile, the aircraft shows neutral flight behavior in both normal and supine positions.
In 2012, the Flying Bulls' two extras served as towing machines for the "Blanix 3 Files" stunt.
The extra 330LE (aircraft registration D-EPWA) is one of Siemens with an electric drive (mass about 50 kg at a power of 260 kW) equipped variant that on July 4, 2016 the airfield Dinslaken / Schwarze Heide in Bottrop-Kirchhellen to took off her maiden flight. This was the first time that an aircraft designed according to the CS-23 building regulations flew with a purely electric drive. Siemens developed the drive system with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as part of the German aeronautical research program LuFo. The Extra 330LE was developed in cooperation between Siemens, Extra Aircraft , MT-Propeller and the Slovenian Pipistrel (battery).

Users
Sports pilots and aerobatic teams fly with the Extra 300.
- The Blades , a UK aerobatic team, use Extra 300LP and 330SC.
- The Royal Jordanian Falcons fly five Extra 300L.
- The Flying Bulls have two (2) Extra 300L
Aviation accidents
The German entrepreneur Klaus Lenhart died on April 30, 2012 when his Extra 300L D-EWKL crashed.
