The Extra EA-500 is a single-engine turboprop - powered travel and business aircraft that was developed by Extra Flugzeugproduktions- und Vertriebs GmbH , which is located at Dinslaken / Schwarze Heide airfield in Hünxe , North Rhine-Westphalia . The patent rights were sold to China.
history
The EA-500 prototype had its maiden flight in 2002 and was approved in 2004. Series production started in early 2009. The EA-500 is based on the Extra 400 with a piston engine , but is instead driven by a shaft turbine. The aircraft is a shoulder- wing aircraft with retractable landing gear and is the only one in its class to have a cabin made entirely of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic . It offers space for up to six people including the pilot. The Extra 500 was designed and developed by the German aircraft designer and former world aerobatic champion Walter Extra . It is equipped with modern multiple display instruments - the so-called "glass cockpit" - and a pressurized cabin. The maximum range is 2966 kilometers.
After just under 30 aircraft were sold in a period of four years, the patent rights were sold to the Chinese company Jiangsu A-Star in 2013. This wants to continue construction at its own production site near Shanghai.
