The Sukhoi Su-26 ( Russian Сухой Су-26 ) is a single-seat sport aircraft that was developed in the Soviet Union as the first civil development by the Sukhoi design office .

development

The aircraft was developed under the internal designation S-42 by a group founded in 1982 in OKB Suchoi with the help of engineers from the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) and the DOSAAF plant in Prienai .

The basis for the design was the Jak-55 , which has been heavily revised. She was with an air-cooled M-14 - radial engine equipped and had, until then unusual for a Soviet design, a large proportion of plastic parts on. It can be loaded with up to +12 g and −10 g and thus exceeds the load capacity of the pilot. The machine has a rear wheel chassis, the main wheels are on a titanium axle.

On June 30, 1984, the aerobatic test pilot Yevgeny Frolow completed the maiden flight. The first four machines were still equipped with the V-530 two-blade propeller. The production version Su-26M has revised tail fins and a three-bladed propeller from the German company Hoffmann. An improved version was produced from 2003, which was named Su-26M3 . This version had received the new M-9F engine and other improvements.

The Su-26 won both the men's and women's team championships at the 1986 World Aerobatics Championships.

The Su-26 was also exported to the west, so Su-26 fly in Switzerland and the USA, among others .
