The Sukhoi T-47 ( Russian Сухой Т-47 ) is a Soviet interceptor based on the T-3 family with improved radar equipment and armament. The Sukhoi T-47 was tested in early 1958 until April 1960. The official first flight of the new interceptor with a new radar, new engine and rocket mounts under the wings took place on October 25, 1958. Ultimately, however, the T-47 did not go into series production.

Prototypes

The first prototype T-47-1 was used for ground and engine tests and did not take part in test flights. Two of the T-3 prototypes received a new fuselage nose and were used for aerodynamic studies under the designation PT-8-4 and PT-7. The PT-7 then became the first aircraft of a new generation under the designation T-47-3, while the PT-8-5 (later referred to as the T-47-2) was lost in an accident in September 1958.

After the loss of the T-47-3, testing with the T-47-4 was continued in April 1959 and the T-47-5 was added in June. Between November 1959 and April 1960, they were used to test the K-8M infrared guided missile . At the end of the tests, two further prototypes, the T-47-7 and T-47-8, were available with which the radio-controlled version of the K-8M was then tested, while the T-47-6, which was also available, was used for the new Sukhoi interceptor T-37 intended missile K-9 tested. The bow and the fuel system were revised and a more powerful engine was installed. By April 1960, all T-47s were converted to this stand.
