development
Development began in 1990 and was based on the Su-26M . The not yet flown prototype was first exhibited at the 1991 Aérosalon in Le Bourget . The machine made its maiden flight on August 9, 1991 with Yevgeny Frolow in the cockpit. Two further prototypes flew in autumn 1991 and spring 1992. The first series machines followed shortly afterwards.
A machine with the designation Su-29LL was converted as a test vehicle for the super light ejection seat SKS-94.
In addition to the armed forces of Russia and Argentina, users also include private individuals in Argentina, Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, South Africa and the USA.
Further developments of the Su-29 include the Suchoi Su-31 and the Suchoi Su-38 .
