Lists on the subject |
The Kaliningrad K-8 (Isdelije 24R) is a Soviet air-to-air missile with the NATO designation AA-3 "Anab" .
history
The development of the missile designed for medium ranges began in 1955. There were versions with infrared guidance as well as those with semi-active radar guidance. In 1961 the version R-8M (better known as R-98 ) was introduced. The last version was called R-98M1 (NATO ' Advanced Anab' ) and was used from 1973. This was the main weapon system in the Su-15 and Jak-28 fighters . It remained in use until these aircraft were decommissioned in the early 1990s.
On September 1, 1983, a fired Su-15 two missiles of this type on a Boeing 747-200 of Korean Airlines . This then crashed into the sea west of the island of Sakhalin , killing all 269 occupants (see Korean Airlines flight 007 ).
