The Jakowlew Jak-27 ( Russian Яковлев Як-27 , NATO code name " Mangrove ") is an aircraft from the Jakowlew design office . It was used by the Soviet Air Force as a reconnaissance aircraft , bomber and fighter .
development
The design was based on the Jak-125 , the prototype of the Jak-25R and Jak-25B from 1956. The new model was given a somewhat slimmer fuselage and a glazed bow as a workplace for the navigator. The wings were double swept and provided with a so-called saw tooth on their leading edges.
During development, care was taken to ensure that the equipment was changed quickly so that the model could alternatively be used as a reconnaissance or tactical bomber. This type was named Jak-27R .
In 1959 the all-weather interceptor version Jak-27P with radome appeared. Both variants were commissioned in 1959.
The Jak-27 was used until the late 1960s and then replaced by the more powerful Jak-28 .
technical description
The Jak-27 was made in all-metal construction. The most obvious differentiating feature from the Jak-28 was the middle -wing configuration of the wings with a high-speed profile (the Jak-28 was a shoulder -wing wing ). All wings and the swept normal tail were self-supporting.
The nose and main wheels of the tandem landing gear were pulled into the fuselage during the flight, the two support wheels at the ends of the wings could be folded back.
