The Jakowlew Jak-200 was a Soviet training and training aircraft .
development
The OKB Yakovlev designed the Yak-200 at the beginning of the 1950s. It was designed for the advanced training of crews for the twin - engine bomber IL-28 . For this reason, in addition to the conventional cabin intended for flight students and instructors, it also received a glazed fuselage cockpit for training the bombardier, as was also used on the IL-28. It was designed as a middle-decker with radial engines located in nacelles under the wings, which also served to accommodate the main wheels of the nose wheel landing gear. In addition to the usual equipment, the equipment also included two radios , a radio compass and two radio altimeters - one for low and one for high heights. At the same time, a second prototype called Jak-210 was created, which was tailored to navigator training. It differed from the first example in that it had a bulge-shaped cladding under the fuselage level with the trailing edge of the wing, under which the PSBN-M radio measuring device was located. In addition, a row camera was placed in the fuselage .
The testing of the Jak-200 prototype ( yellow 52 ) began on April 10, 1953, the Jak-210 with the tactical number 53 followed in July. Although the flight performance of both specimens was satisfactory, an instability around the longitudinal axis that was unacceptable for a training aircraft was revealed during single-engine flight with the second engine switched off. Some changes were therefore made, which dragged on until 1955. The most obvious modernization carried out on both prototypes was the extension of the fin in the form of a false keel on the back of the fuselage. Disappointingly, the tests that were subsequently resumed showed no improvement in the stability problems, so it was decided to discontinue the program, especially since a more suitable type was now available with the IL-28U. A two-seater study in a shoulder-wing design with a cabin for eight passengers behind it, called Project 220, did not get beyond the drawing board stage.
