The Jakowlew Jak-6 ( Russian Яковлев Як-6 ) was a Soviet , twin-engine aircraft from the time of the Second World War .

development

The design office of Alexander Yakovlev began with the planning work in May 1942 and in August of the same year, the first prototype maiden flight and completed flight testing began one month from later. It was originally intended, the Yak-6 with M-12 provide -Antrieben, but had to because of the general shortage on the weaker 11-M - radial engines dodge.

The aircraft appeared in two versions. The machines designated as Jak-6 were designed as multi-purpose transporters and were used in the course of the Great Patriotic War to supply partisans , to transport the wounded and for liaison and courier services.

The second version was the light night bombing aircraft NBB ( N otschnoi B lischnij B ombardirowschtschik). In contrast to the transporter, there was a movable SchKAS machine gun on the back of the fuselage and five suspensions under the fuselage for a bomb load of up to 500 kg. In the Battle of Berlin , many NBBs were equipped with under-wing launchers for ten 82 mm RS-82 missiles that could be used against ground targets.

A total of 381 copies of both versions were built, the majority of them as transporters.

In early 1944, the improved Jak-6M appeared with aerodynamic cylinder fairings. The slightly larger Jak-8 was developed from this version, but it did not go into series production due to the weak engines.

The Jak-6 was a cantilever low wing aircraft made entirely of wood and covered with fabric. The tailplane was braced. The main wheels of the rear wheel landing gear could be pulled back into the engine nacelles, whereby they protruded a little. Many crews also flew their Jak-6s with their landing gear down. The tail spur was not retractable.
