Merger (lighting technology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The merger ( engl. For merging, fusion) is a unit of the lighting equipment , the digital light signals panel interconnects. In contrast to the splitter , it reads the incoming DMX signals and mixes them together on one line.

Mergers are used when you want to use several lighting consoles to control the same lamps. You can also save cables with them by combining the DMX signal of a lighting control desk for conventional light and that of a lighting desk for scanners and moving lights .

The merger also determines the timing. Some older moving lights do not understand the new language of the new interfaces. That means the timing of the signals is too fast or unclear. The merger helps with this (often).
