Bernhard Schneider (theologian)

Bernhard Schneider (born November 6, 1959 in Sirzenich ) is a Catholic theologian.

Life

Schneider studied Catholic theology at the University of Trier, where he in 1989 with his thesis on brotherhoods in Trier country also to Dr. theol. received his doctorate . In 1997 he qualified as a professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in the subject of church history in the Middle Ages and modern times. After teaching assignments in Trier and Saarbrücken and a substitute chair at the Technical University of Dortmund , he was appointed full professor for church history in the Middle Ages and modern times at the University of Trier on October 1, 2000.

He researches the history of Christian poor relief, the history of piety in modern times, and the history of communication in German Catholicism in the 19th century, as well as the Catholic Enlightenment. In 2017 he was elected President of the Society for Middle Rhine Church History in Mainz for four years , as Professor Dr. Peter Walter , Freiburg, had waived his re-election.
