Bernhard Zimmermann (musician)

Bernhard Zimmermann (born April 12, 1977 in Waidhofen an der Thaya ) is an Austrian keyboardist , singer, teacher, composer and astrophotographer.

Life

Zimmermann grew up in a musical family, attended high school in Waidhofen an der Thaya and learned to play the classical piano at an early age, which he later studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In his youth he was a musician and songwriter with various bands in the eastern part of Austria. He played in groups of different music styles such as progressive rock, pop, funk, jazz, Austropop etc.

Zimmermann has been a music and English teacher at the grammar school in Gmünd since 2002.

For several years he has also been on the road as a solo artist and has produced three solo albums.

Zimmermann became known to a wider public when he was nominated for the Austrian qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 ( Guten Morgen Düsseldorf ). His song The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter was selected by the radio station Ö3 , whereby Zimmermann narrowly missed entry into the final of the remaining 30. Before that, the song was also one of the winners in the Austria-wide pop composition competition “Project Pop!”.

In 2017 he took part in the recordings for the album "Newest Things" by the Italian singer Claude Weisberg. On this production Zimmermann worked with several international session musicians who have already appeared on albums by Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Toto and many others.

In addition to his work as a musician and teacher, Zimmermann is also an enthusiastic astrophotographer.

Bernhard Zimmermann is married and has one daughter.
