Bernhard von Hagen (* in Geseke ; † October 3, 1556 in Cologne ) was a priest and vicar general in Cologne.

Life

Matriculation at the University of Cologne at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and simultaneous entry into the Montanerburse on October 3, 1503. At the end of 1504 he acquired the academic degree of Baccalaureus there and in 1505 became pastor in the St. Petri Church in Geseke. At the beginning of 1506, Bernhard was licensed as well as master of the liberal arts and then turned to legal studies. In 1513 he acquired the degree of Baccalaureus in this subject as well as the degree of Licentiate and in 1516 a doctorate in imperial law. Since 1517 professor and from 1518 dean of the legal faculty of the University of Cologne and at the same time canon in Cologne, Archbishop Hermann V von Wied appointed him vicar general in 1518, as he is attested to until 1526, and as Sigillifer in the archbishop's office . From 1526 he is listed as the Archbishop's Chancellor. Bernhard was a member of the university's faculty until 1526.

Bernhard von Hagen tried to reform within the church and fought together with the canon and Cardinal Johannes Gropper against the Protestantization attempts of the Archbishopric by Archbishop Hermann V. von Wied .

He bequeathed his fortune to his nephew Konrad Orth , also canon of Cologne. This in turn created a study foundation.

-

Bernhard the noble vom Hagen takes on the heavenly home,

During the father's house was in the Westphalian district.

Standing out in body, inspired by splendid virtue, he has

keeps us intact holy faith.

The day is lamentable, and to draw with black paint:

Cruel death has robbed the world of such an ornament!
