Bernhard von Oer (* 16th century) was canon at the St. Aegidi Church in Münster . The District Court Judge Offenberg zu Münster describes the case of Bernhard von Oer. He was a manslayer who was released without a trial after five years in prison in Bevergern.

Life

He was the son of Berndt von Oer and his third wife Gosti von Münster zur Kolvenburg. After the death of his uncle Heidenreich von Oer in 1574 he was awarded his canon position. Around 1585 he went to Italy with his friend Johann von Westerholt . From there, Oer returned to Münster at the beginning of 1588. On March 20, 1588, Bernhard got into an argument with the canon Johann Torck , which began verbally and later ended in a mass brawl. The Commander of the Teutonic Order , Melchior Droste, intervened and reprimanded Bernhard von Oer. He thought of revenge and later killed the Commander, together with Johann von Westerholt, who was to be sent with five knife wounds, accompanied by his brother Jobst Droste . Despite his appeal to his spiritual immunity, von Oer was handed over to the city council of Münster by the councilor and later mayor Bernhard II von Droste zu Hülshoff . This handed over both perpetrators to the episcopal judge. Both were imprisoned in Bevergern . Von Oer managed to escape. He was picked up in Ibbenbüren and now held captive in Lingen .

After an expert opinion by the University of Freiburg , he was released and Bishop Ernst von Bayern has declared the proceedings to be over. As a result, there was still a trial for his benefice at the cathedral in Münster. In the end he gave up the job in exchange for the payment of 300 Reichstaler. Together with Anna von Dorsel (called Pap-Anneken), daughter of a pastor, he had several illegitimate children.
