Bernhardus Church (Rastatt)
The Bernhardus Church in Rastatt is the oldest documented parish church in Rastatt. It was the church of the former village of Rastetten .
The first documented mention of the Bernhardus Church comes from the year 1207 and is about a restoration. The church has a high Gothic choir . In the 17th century it was badly damaged by the chaos of the war. Due to the upcoming construction of a new church in the center of the emerging baroque planned town of Rastatt, it was initially restored only provisionally. From 1770 a partially new building followed in a simple baroque style . The tower stump and the choir were preserved. The previous Alexander Church was consecrated to the Blessed Margrave Bernhard II of Baden in 1771 and was used as a cemetery chapel until the middle of the 19th century. The church still serves as a place of worship today.
